China Facebook Users Exceeded 700,000
BEIJING, Feb 10, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- The number of users of Facebook, a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them, in China has exceeded 700,000.
Foreign media said that the number of Facebook users has grown sharply in the recent two months, from 300,000 to more than 700,000, although it is unknown if the company can march into China smoothly.
Analysts attributed the sharp growth mainly to that Facebook pioneer Mark Zuckerberg visited China. The pioneer contacted with leading Internet companies in China, such as Baidu Inc., SINA, and Taobao to win many exposure and attract a large amount of attentions from Internet users in China. Besides, a large number of Chinese tourists traveled overseas in the Chinese Spring Festival Period ended on February 9, 2011, which is said to be likely increase the number of registered users of Facebook. By far, the growing trend has continued. According to the attached picture, the number of Chinese users registering in recent days has hit tens of thousands.

Ath: Australian Tallent claims bronze medal in 20km walk
By Steve Larkin
BEIJING, Aug 16 AAP - Walker Jared Tallent says he couldn't be happier after winning
Australia's first track and field medal at the Beijing Games.
The 23-year-old claimed a bronze medal in the men's 20km walk today, finishing behind
Russian gold medallist Valeriy Borchin and the 1996 Olympic champion Jefferson Perez from
Ecuador.
Australian Luke Adams was sixth, while countryman Chris Erickson was disqualified.
Tallent said it was not until the final two kilometres of the race he began thinking of a medal.
"When Perez took off with about five kilometres to go, I thought that is where the
medals are going to be made, so I went with it," Tallent said.
"And then once those two got away I was always fearful the Italian and Chinese guys
would come over the top of me," he said, referring to Hao Wang (fifth) and Ivano Brugnetti
(sixth).
Tallent held on to snare bronze on Olympic debut.
"I couldn't be more happy, it's an Olympic medal, it was like `you little beauty' -
bronze medal at the Olympics, first time, over the moon," he said.
"There was no pressure on me, I don't think anyone was talking about me winning a medal.
"The athletics team finds it hard to win medals, it's such a tough sport, there is
so much competition.
"So to come out here and win a medal on the second day (of the athletics program),
I couldn't be more happy."
In two weeks Tallent will marry fellow Olympian Claire Woods, who will contest the
women's 20km walk on Thursday. The marriage ceremony will held in the inner Adelaide suburb
of Walkerville.

CANBERRA, April 8 AAP - Almost three quarters of Australians want Prime Minister Kevin
Rudd to take a lead in bringing a lasting solution to the conflict over Tibet, a new poll
shows.
A Galaxy poll conducted for progressive lobby group GetUp shows 71 per cent of the
1,100 people surveyed want Mr Rudd to use "his standing with the Chinese government to
attempt to broker a lasting solution to the Tibet conflict".
GetUp executive director Brett Solomon called on Mr Rudd to pay careful attention to
the poll result.
"The prime minister should be in no doubt as he heads into his meetings with the Chinese
leaders of the deep resonance of this issue within the broader community," Mr Solomon
said in a statement.
"He clearly has the backing of his domestic constituency."
Mr Solomon said Mr Rudd's background as a China expert put him in a rare position to
take a leading role in negotiations.
"Mr Rudd is the best placed world leader to stand up for Tibet and the Australian community
are rising to meet that opportunity by sending him to Beijing with an unflinching mandate
to boldly do so."

Fed: High Court rules Virgin Blue dividends should cover tax
AAP General News (Australia)

Fed: High Court rules Virgin Blue dividends should cover tax
CANBERRA, Dec 5 AAP - Australian budget airline Virgin Blue was obliged to retain funds
from dividends it owed to two foreign shareholders to cover their tax liabilities, the
High Court held today.
The court heard that Cricket SA and Virgin Holdings - both Geneva-based corporations
- were liable to pay tax on a capital gain made on the disposal of Virgin Blue shares
in 2003.
Cricket SA was liable to pay $64.4 million in tax and interest and Virgin Holdings'
liability amounted to about $20.5 million.
The Tax Commissioner attempted to recover the amounts in December 2005 by requiring
Virgin Blue to retain $65 million in declared dividends instead of paying them to the
two shareholder companies.
At the time, Cricket SA held 23 per cent of the issued capital of Virgin Blue and Virgin
Holdings held 2.08 per cent.
The day after the commissioner issued notices to retain the dividends the two companies
assigned their dividend rights to a third party - Bluebottle - which gave Virgin Blue
an irrevocable direction to pay a fourth party - Barfair.
Bluebottle, Cricket SA, Virgin Holdings and Barfair won an action they brought in the
NSW Supreme Court to declare the various transactions effective and the tax commissioner's
notices invalid.
The decision was overturned by the Court of Appeal which ordered Virgin Blue to pay
the commissioner the dividends.
The four companies appealed that decision to the High Court which today, in an unanimous
decision, ruled that Virgin Blue was obliged to retain from the dividends sufficient funds
to pay the tax liabilities of Cricket SA and Virgin Holdings.
The court held that Virgin Blue, despite the assignments to Bluebottle, had control
of money belonging to its shareholders on the day the dividends were declared.
As a result it remained liable to pay the dividends to Cricket SA and Virgin Holdings.

WA: WA braces for yet another cyclone
PERTH, April 7 AAP - A cyclone menacing Western Australia's north looks set to be the
fourth to cross the Pilbara coast this year.
The region is bracing itself for the category two Cyclone Hubert, expected cross the
WA coast west of Onslow tonight or early tomorrow morning.
The weather bureau says at last report Hubert was about 195km north of Onslow and 240km
north northwest of Exmouth, moving south, southwest at 12km per hour.
But it was not expected to intensify and may even weaken before reaching land, the bureau said.
Gale-force winds of up to 100kph were forecast along the west Pilbara coast this morning,
but more destructive winds were expected in coastal areas between Exmouth and Mardie this
afternoon or tonight.
The Karratha, Roebourne, Dampier, Onslow, Exmouth and Mardie communities were placed
on blue alert, meaning cyclone damage was likely.
Onslow's senior police officer Sergeant Bill Allan said local residents were prepared
for their second cyclone in just over a week, following Cyclone Glenda.
About 12 hours of continuous rain had resulted in some local flooding but so far no
buildings had been damaged, he said.
And there had been no evacuations.
"The central wind gusts are 150kph," he said. "One hundred and fifty is still a good
gust of wind and they can do as just as much damage as Glenda's, and I think Glenda were
150-160kph."
Major resource projects in the region were taking precautions, either shutting down
or moving operations.
Woodside Petroleum, Santos and BHP Billiton have all moved some facilities and shut down others.
Rio Tinto has started securing its port operations at Dampier.
Hubert is WA's seventh cyclone of the season and if it does make land, it will be the
fourth to do so in the Pilbara region this year.
The last time that happened was six years ago.
"We went back through the records and the last time we had four crossings was in the
season 1999/2000 so, it's the best part of six years," Bureau of Meteorology forecaster
Neil Bennett told ABC radio today.
"And all in the one area, all through that western Pilbara region."
Category four storm Glenda crossed the coast at Onslow on March 30, Cyclone Emma crossed
in February and Clare in January.

NO-GROWTHERS DESTROY WESTERN COMMUNITIES.(Editorial)
My 21-year-old daughter is leaving the small Western college town she grew up in for a large West Coast city, and I couldn't be happier.
After low wages and a cul de sac of career opportunities, she finally figured out that her quality of life would increase educationally, culturally and, most important, vocationally in a metropolitan setting.
I had left a year earlier for the Midwest, and two years ago her mom left for California. Like so many of her friends, my daughter had been brought to the West so her parents could fulfill some back-to-land-experience-the-West fantasy. Then we left and she stayed.
Truth is, there isn't much of a future in the Inter-mountain West for young adults. Whether in Hamilton, Moab, Livingston or Sandpoint, these safe, pastoral enclaves may be great environments to raise kids, but they are not great places to raise young adults.
And we, their parents, have only ourselves to blame. For it is our own strident opposition to development that stifles opportunities for our offspring and forces our children outward. Though we will deny it, this exodus kills any continuity of community.
Recently, a proposal to build a hotel-convention center in a dilapidated section of Moscow, Idaho, was met with fierce opposition by the usual suspects. The possibility of an evil out-of-state conspiracy was raised by a Fresno, Calif., native. A retired professor - Stanford alumnus - barked out his concerns on an Internet chat line about how Californians needed to control "their breeding." Despite all that chitty chat, no one mentioned that nearby Washington State University was graduating dozens of young, ambitious adults annually from its hotel and restaurant administration program who would have loved to cut their professional teeth in the area. Seattle, San Francisco and Portland, here they come.
When you have college and high school graduates fleeing the premises each year, what is left is a cantankerous, unimaginative group of grumpy old men and women in their 40s and 50s who cling desperately to an unrealistic goal of no-growth. We Western baby boomers, who were supposed to be the cool generators of change, have become paranoid obstacles to sustainability. As our children give up on their homes, they take with them the vitality of youth, along with their creativity and nerve - the very heart of any viable community.
One begins to wonder what kind of development would be acceptable to the old guard aside from a food co-op, a vintage clothing store, a cafe featuring bitter coffee and an independent book store full of romantic memoirs about the splendor of living "Out West."
Why are we so anxious to preserve weed-choked lots on the edge of towns? Why do the veins in our collective necks pop out when a new subdivision is proposed, even though many of those new homes will house long-time residents who want to trade up, opening older homes to first-time buyers? Do we think that our communities have to remain static?
We hold onto such fallacies at the expense of our children. They grow up absorbing our own complaints about dead-end jobs and our lack of career choices. They see us settle for less. They listen to us at the dinner table rail and spew against developers. They marinate in a stew of fear.
It's not that we should roll over to bad development plans. Involvement and vigilance in local planning is key to healthy towns. But when every proposal is instantly condemned as part of some evil right-wing menace, how does one even get a chance to sort out the good from the bad? When do we begin to factor in our children's economic future?
In other parts of the country multi-generational roots are set more firmly into the social soil. In the part of the Midwest where I live, there are so many opportunities that the kids have the choice to leave permanently or to settle in and start families and small businesses. The plumber who installed our new shower went to grade school with the floor man who played T-ball with the carpenter who built our new door. Roots are so strong that it would take much more than a convenience store to cut them apart.
We want our children to spread their wings and conquer the world. But if they return, we need to offer them more than skateboard parks, groovy cafes and frustrated parents.

Since 1985, Ethiopia's population has doubled to almost 80 million while per-capita farm production has declined leading to one famine expert to term Ethiopia's problems asAa "a ticking time bomb".The support of Dubai Cares, which was announced yesterday, will help enable Save the Children to provide key health and nutrition aid through its innovative community-based therapeutic care (CTC) sites. By establishing eight CTCs, Save the Children will reach nearly 26,000 moderately malnourished children and 4,900 severely malnourished children under the age of five in these regions. The programme will also reach 21,600 pregnant or breast-feeding mothers.Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State and chairperson of Dubai Cares board of directors, said: "We are committed to providing emergency relief to the people of Ethiopia during this time of great need. The escalating food crisis triggered by a growing drought and rising food prices has put large numbers of Ethiopian children and their families at risk."Margaret Schuler, Save the Children's country director in Ethiopia, added: "This partnership with Dubai Cares is significant. It will allow Save the Children to access critically needed food commodities to support the needs of thousands of children in Ethiopia who are the most dramatically impacted by the current food crisis. We greatly appreciate the support."Aa Dubai Cares has positioned itself as a strategic coordinator actively engaged with international aid agencies to develop primary education programmes and to ensure immediate impact on the ground. It is the largest charitable establishment solely devoted to improving primary education in the world.Dubai Cares has prioritised its phase one grants to countries that demonstrate the highest gap in primary education. Earlier this year, it announced 12 beneficiary countries including Bangladesh, Bosnia, Chad, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Maldives, Mauritania, Niger, Pakistan, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Sudan and Yemen, as well as Palestinian refugees (in Lebanon and Jordan).Save the Children is the leading independent organisation creating lasting change for children in the United States and around the world. For more than 75 years, Save the Children has been helping children survive and thrive by improving their health, education and economic opportunities and, in times of acute crisis, mobilising lifesaving assistance to help children recover from the effects of war, conflict and natural disasters.Dubai Cares, set up by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai last year raised dhs1.7 billion during an eight-week drive to raise funds for the needy across the world.Sheikh Mohammed then doubled the amount raised, allowing dhs3.4 billion to be donated.

2010 U.S. Online Auto Insurance Policy Shopping and Quote Submission Sustains Significant Activity Seen in 2009.
comScore Releases 2011 Online Auto Insurance Report on Shopping and Servicing Activity
RESTON, Va., May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its 2011 Online Auto Insurance Report, a two-part report that provides a detailed analysis of the industry in 2010 along with behaviors, attitudes and intentions of consumers conducting auto insurance transactions online. The first report in the series, the 2011 Online Auto Insurance Shopping Report, presents a detailed overview of the online auto insurance acquisition market, with insights into overall industry trends, the competitive landscape and key areas influencing consumers' online decision-making process. The second report, the 2011 Online Auto Insurance Servicing Report, offers an in-depth look at consumer attitudes toward the servicing of their existing auto insurance policies. Among the topics covered in the second report are bill payment behaviors, incidence of servicing activities online, future intent, and preferences toward interacting with agents both online and offline.
(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20080115/COMSCORELOGO)
The study draws its analysis from comScore's research panel of 1 million U.S. consumers and a survey of more than 4,000 U.S. Internet users. Among its findings, the study shows online auto insurance channels continued to generate a high volume of insurance shopping activity in 2010, with 37 million quotes submitted and 2.9 million policies purchased over the year. This volume remains consistent with shopping levels seen in 2009, which saw significant growth from the prior year.
"The 2011 Online Auto Insurance Reports show the online auto insurance industry sustaining the dramatic increase in online shopping activity seen in 2009, indicating that the previous year was not merely a temporary gain in activity," said Susan Kleinman, comScore director. "This continued strength reinforces the positive shifts we perceived last year in consumer attitudes toward online auto insurance channels and the importance of these channels in reaching a growing number of consumers now accustomed to searching online for the best deals on insurance policies."
Online Quote Submission and Purchasing Activity Remains Strong in 2010
In 2009, online quote submission and purchasing saw a dramatic increase of 21 and 22 percent, respectively. In 2010, this volume of activity was maintained, with only minimal changes in the number of quotes submitted (down 3 percent) and the volume of insurance purchases made online (up 1 percent).

| Quotes Submitted | 15% | -1% | 21% | -3% |
| Policies Purchased | 37% | 8% | 22% | 1% |
In 2010, 32 percent of respondents who reported not having made an online auto insurance policy purchase in the past said they would be more likely to do so in the future. Notably, only 22 percent declared they would be unlikely to do so, a significant 17 percentage-point decrease from 2009. Such a pronounced shift in sentiment bodes well for the continued growth of the sector, indicating an enhanced ability to convert new users who in the past resisted using the online channel.

Consumers Using Local Agents More Likely to Consider Other Methods in the Future
While the most popular method of initial auto insurance policy purchases for respondents continues to be going through a local insurance agent in person, one in five respondents now report having purchased their initial policies online, showing online channels gaining a larger share of the initial intake market.

In addition, those who currently service their policy with a local agent are also now more likely to consider using a different method of purchase in the future, with 22 percent of respondents saying they would be more likely to use another method in 2011, up from 16 percent in 2009.

"Although the significant growth in online auto insurance shopping in 2009 subsided in 2010, consumer preferences and attitudes toward online insurance channels indicate a growing regard for these channels as a better way to search for policies and engage with issuers," added Ms. Kleinman. "As more issuers build out their online channels and become more sophisticated in acquiring and servicing customers, we expect to see a continuing shift toward the use of these online channels for conducting auto insurance transactions."

Independent Results Support the Use of BioCurex Technology for Gastric Cancer.
RICHMOND, British Columbia -- BioCurex, Inc. (OTCBB:BOCX) announced today that a group of scientists led by Dr. So Tsuboi from the Shigei Medical Research Hospital, Japan, have published results on the expression of the receptor for AFP (RECAF) in normal, benign and malignant stomach tissue. The tissue study used a variation of the Company's Histo-RECAF kit. The results indicate that RECAF was expressed in 34 out of 47 cancers and not expressed in 59 out of 61 normal or benign tissues. The authors conclude that RECAF may become a new clinically useful marker of gastric cancer.
The paper was published in the peer reviewed international journal Tumor Biology, published by Karger AG. The journal was founded in 1890 for disseminating medical and scientific knowledge.
The other institutions involved in this study were the Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences; the Okayama Citizen's Hospital; and the Oota Memorial Hospital, Fukuyama.
For more information on the article: http://content.karger.com/ProdukteDB/produkte.asp?Aktion= ShowAbstract&ProduktNr=224124&Ausgabe=232278&ArtikelNr=96071. (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. Remove the extra space if one exists.)
The work was completely independent from BioCurex, which provided, free of cost, the reagents necessary to carry out the work.
Dr. Ricardo Moro, president and CEO, BioCurex, stated: "Stomach cancer in Japan has a higher incidence than in the Western world and it is one of the primary areas of focus for cancer research in that country. This paper reports 73% sensitivity with 97% specificity using Histo-RECAF for tissue examination. Given the small number of samples, the difference in the technique and the distribution of cancer types in Japan compared to the Western hemisphere, the results are consistent with our findings for Serum-RECAF.
This is another example of external validation supporting the potential to use RECAF for diagnosis and perhaps even treatment of cancers. We are discussing the possibility of utilizing and correlating Serum-RECAF in the authors' own laboratories as a prelude to engaging Japanese scientific companies in licensing discussions."
About BioCurex:
BioCurex, Inc. is a biotechnology company that is developing products based on patented/proprietary technology in the areas of cancer diagnosis, imaging and therapy. The technology identifies a cancer marker known as RECAF(TM), which is found on malignant cells from a variety of cancer types but is absent in most normal or benign cells.
BioCurex has signed a licensing agreement with Abbott Laboratories for BioCurex's RECAF(TM) Cancer technology as outlined in a joint press release dated March 29, 2005. The release noted that the cancer marker RECAF(TM) has emerged as a potential biomarker that may be useful in the development of new cancer diagnostics tests. Preliminary studies from the investigators at BioCurex have reported a high level of clinical sensitivity and specificity for RECAF in many of the most common cancers, including prostate, breast, colorectal, lung and others.
